20 Thais Still Held Captive in Gaza, Ministry Confirms After Release of 10 Hostages

Thai government expresses gratitude for the release and seeks safe return of remaining hostages.

Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that 20 Thai nationals are still being held captive in Gaza, following the release of 10 hostages on Friday. The families of those freed have been notified, and they are now under the care of officials from the Thai embassy. The group will remain in the hospital for at least 48 hours for medical assessments, after which arrangements will be made for their return to Thailand.

The ministry clarified that, contrary to earlier reports, only 10 hostages were released, not 12 as initially suggested. Four of the 10 were not previously confirmed as hostages. The initial estimate of 26 Thai nationals abducted by Hamas has now been revised, with the 20 remaining hostages still held in Gaza.

The Thai government expressed deep gratitude to various governments and organizations, including Qatar, Israel, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and others, for their assistance in securing the release. The government has called for the humane treatment and safe release of the remaining hostages as soon as possible.
