Over 100,000 Summonses Resolved During Three-Day Initiative
Malaysian authorities collected RM9.14 million (S$2.7 million) in traffic fines during a three-day campaign offering a 60% discount. From November 22 to 24, over 103,000 summonses were settled through various payment methods, including the MyBayar PDRM portal. Top offences included speeding, illegal parking, and ignoring traffic signals.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri emphasized that the initiative aimed to clear overdue summonses rather than focusing on revenue. The program, marking the government’s second anniversary, saw 32,500 visitors participating.
Officials are now exploring cashless payment solutions for future discounts but warned against relying on such offers. Public compliance with traffic laws, particularly during heavy monsoon rains, was stressed to enhance road safety.
Separately, Singaporean drivers remain the top foreign offenders, owing Malaysia RM3.5 million (S$1.04 million) in unpaid fines, part of nearly 41 million unresolved summonses since 1990.
