Authorities investigate motive behind attack as community mourns devastating loss
A violent knife attack during a children’s dance class in Southport on Monday left two children dead and nine others injured, including six critically. The attack occurred at Hart Space, a venue hosting a Taylor Swift-themed yoga and dance session for children aged six to eleven.
Merseyside Police reported that a 17-year-old male suspect was apprehended on charges of murder and attempted murder. The motivation for the assault remains unclear, but it is not currently considered terrorism-related.
Witnesses described harrowing scenes, with children and adults fleeing the studio, many covered in blood. Parents frantically sought their children, while local residents and business owners provided aid before emergency services arrived. Police and trauma support teams are assisting affected families, and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital declared a major incident due to the influx of casualties.
