71% of Singaporeans Prioritize Free Shipping in Online Shopping

Survey Highlights Key Factors Influencing E-Commerce Decisions

A recent Shopify survey reveals that free shipping is a top priority for Singaporean consumers when shopping online. According to Shopify’s Retail Report 2024, a significant 71% of respondents in Singapore expect free shipping on their purchases. This preference reflects the growing influence of shipping costs on consumer decisions in the e-commerce sector.

In addition to free shipping, other important factors for online shoppers in Singapore include a variety of payment options, with 55% of respondents desiring both debit and credit card payment methods, and 51% expecting free return policies. These findings suggest that convenience and flexibility are highly valued by consumers.

The survey also revealed insights into traditional retail preferences. Over half of shoppers emphasized the importance of knowledgeable staff and sufficient product stock in physical stores, indicating that in-person shopping remains essential for certain customer needs.

The report also highlighted the demand for transparency in delivery, with 44% of respondents wanting an estimated delivery date for their online orders. Other preferences included loyalty programs and personalized shopping experiences.

These insights are based on responses from 2,056 residents across four Southeast Asian markets, providing valuable data for retailers aiming to meet the evolving needs of consumers in the region.
