MRT Incident Involving Tourists’ Lack of Etiquette Sparks Online Backlash
A recent incident on Singapore’s MRT has sparked widespread outrage after a passenger shared a post detailing how a group of tourists invaded her seat space. The post, made by a user identified as TR Terminated, describes how the group rushed into the train, forcing themselves into half of her seat, despite her protests.
The passenger said she was pushed to the point where she was almost in physical contact with another local commuter seated next to her. She also mentioned that one of the tourists had the audacity to take a photo of her, further aggravating the situation. “I need to wear sharp thorny nails next time,” she joked in the post, expressing her frustration about not being able to push the tourists away due to her petite frame.
This incident is not an isolated one, as many commuters have previously complained about people who take up public seats with their belongings or even prop their feet up on seats. In response to the original post, several commenters shared similar stories and expressed frustration with the lack of consideration shown by some passengers.
One commenter suggested that the passenger should have physically nudged the tourists to reclaim her seat, while others shared personal experiences of refusing to move to accommodate others. Another user lamented the general lack of manners in public spaces, saying, “Even the elderly are guilty of snatching seats.”
Despite the uproar, some argued that such behavior isn’t exclusive to tourists, and poor manners can often be observed in all age groups across public transport. This post has reignited a broader conversation about how public space etiquette is frequently disregarded by many.
