“Social media user decries cost of Singaporean dish, claiming it’s a ‘privilege’ to pay for local food.”
A diner in Singapore has expressed shock after paying S$19 for a single serving of “Singapore Style Indian Rojak” at a local coffee shop in Tampines. The customer, who goes by the name Sirbutdork Thailand on Facebook, shared their experience on the “COMPLAINT SINGAPORE” page, calling it “the most expensive meal” they’ve ever had in a heartland food court.
The receipt posted by the diner shows that the price was S$19 for a rojak that contained no meat among the eight items selected. The diner commented that for that price, “you pay for the privilege of being a Singaporean.”
The post quickly sparked a conversation online, with some expressing surprise at the high cost of the dish, typically a more affordable local favourite. The incident highlights growing concerns about rising food prices, even for traditional street food.
