High rent and prices push Really Something stall to shut down by end of November, but offering discounts on popular dishes as a farewell.
A popular Taiwanese food stall in Singapore, Really Something (Fei Tong Xiao Ke), has announced that it will close by the end of November due to the rising cost of living, including high rental rates. Located at Chinatown Food Complex, the stall was well-loved by locals for its authentic Taiwanese dishes. In a Facebook post on November 15, stall owner Mr. Li shared the difficult news and thanked customers for their loyal support since the stall’s opening in 2020.
To express gratitude, Mr. Li is offering several of his signature dishes at their original 2020 prices, including Braised Pork Rice (Lu Rou Fan), now priced at S$3 (down from S$4.50), and Chiayi Chicken Rice, reduced to S$3 from S$4. Additionally, the Fried Chicken Cutlet with Egg Fried Rice has been slashed from S$6 to S$4.80, allowing customers to enjoy these dishes at a more affordable rate before the closure.
Mr. Li, who spent six years working in Singapore’s F&B industry before starting his own stall, had even traveled to Taiwan to ensure the authenticity of his dishes. The stall’s closure has drawn sympathy from customers, many of whom praised the quality of the food and expressed hope that the stall may reopen one day.
When asked by a commenter about the sudden closure, Mr. Li remarked, “Things are hard to predict.”
