Allegations of excessive spending on Viagra and implants fuel political controversy.
Brazil’s military faces growing scrutiny over controversial purchases of impotence treatments, including penile implants and Viagra. The army is accused of spending over £500,000 on penile implants, though officials claim only three were bought, not the 60 initially reported. The revelation followed an earlier report that the armed forces had purchased over 35,000 Viagra pills, sparking outrage among political critics.
Opposition figures, including Congresswoman Vivi Reis, condemned the expenditures, calling it an “erectile outrage,” while mocking the military’s spending on items linked to President Jair Bolsonaro’s often boastful claims of virility. Despite backlash, the military defended its actions, claiming the Viagra was used to treat pulmonary hypertension and that its healthcare system regularly manages medical needs for its large patient base, including surgery for male ailments.
