Tsai Ing-wen declares that Taiwan will not succumb to Chinese pressure, promising to safeguard its sovereignty and democracy.
On Taiwan’s National Day, President Tsai Ing-wen declared that Taiwan would not bow to China’s demands, affirming the island’s determination to defend its democracy and sovereignty. In her speech, Tsai condemned Beijing’s ongoing threats to forcibly take control of Taiwan, emphasizing that the future of the island would be decided solely by the Taiwanese people.
Taiwan has faced increasing military pressure from China in recent weeks, including a surge in Chinese military flights near Taiwan’s airspace. These actions, coupled with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s pledge to seek reunification with Taiwan, have raised tensions to some of the highest levels in decades.
Despite the pressure, Tsai assured that Taiwan would continue to strengthen its military defences while refraining from any rash actions. “There should be absolutely no illusions that the Taiwanese people will bow to pressure,” she stated, reaffirming the nation’s resolve to maintain its independence.
