Monarch Adopts Non-Confrontational Stance on Republican Campaign Before Visit
King Charles has expressed that he will not oppose Australia if the country decides to replace him as its head of state. Ahead of his visit later this month, the monarch is reportedly taking an “anti-confrontational approach” with Australian republican campaigners.
In response to a request for a meeting from the Australian Republican Movement (ARM), the king’s assistant private secretary emphasized his “deep love and affection” for Australia. Nathan Ross, the assistant, reiterated that as a constitutional monarch, King Charles acts on the advice of his ministers, and whether Australia becomes a republic is ultimately a decision for the Australian people to make.
