Australian Man to Plead Guilty for Bomb Threat on Scoot Flight

30-year-old Kevin Francis faces legal consequences for causing a mid-flight bomb scare on a Singapore-bound flight.

Kevin Francis, a 30-year-old Australian, is set to plead guilty to making a bomb threat on a Scoot flight in October. Francis was charged on October 14 for allegedly telling a male and female cabin crew member on a flight from Singapore to Perth, “I have a bomb.” The incident occurred on the afternoon of October 12, shortly after the aircraft had taken off from Changi Airport.

In response to the bomb threat, the flight was forced to return to Singapore, escorted by Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) fighter jets. The plane landed safely back at Changi Airport, avoiding any potential danger. The RSAF’s quick response was praised by Singapore’s Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen, who thanked the F-15SG fighter jets crew in a Facebook post on the same day.

Francis appeared in court on December 18 via video link, where his defence counsel, Dhillon Surinder Singh, represented him. He is scheduled to officially plead guilty to the charges on December 22. Under Singapore law, anyone found guilty of making a false bomb threat could face a fine of up to S$500,000, a jail term of up to 10 years, or both.
