Green paint on a building mimics tree leaves, sparking social media excitement and praise from local figures.
A new mural by the elusive street artist Banksy has appeared in north London, capturing the attention of locals and art enthusiasts alike. The artwork, shared on Banksy’s official Instagram on Monday (March 18), features green paint sprayed on the side of a building to mimic the leaves of a heavily pruned tree positioned just a few meters in front of it.
The mural cleverly uses perspective, aligning with the tree’s bare branches from certain angles, creating the illusion of foliage. The piece also includes a characteristic Banksy stencil: a figure holding a spraying device, dripping with green paint, adding a signature touch to the design.
The work has been widely praised, with local lawmaker and former Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, expressing his admiration. Corbyn, who represents the Islington area where the mural appeared, shared his excitement on social media: “Banksy has come to Islington! What wonderful artwork, proving there is hope for our natural world everywhere.”
This latest piece by Banksy follows previous controversial works, including a mural in south London last December that was removed by an unidentified individual in broad daylight. Police later made arrests in connection with the removal. The new mural has reignited discussions about Banksy’s impact on public art and his ongoing presence in London.
