US Secretary of State Emphasizes Extensive Negotiations Ahead as Hamas Proposes a Three-Phase Plan to End the Conflict
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken highlighted that substantial work remains to resolve the ongoing discussions between Israel and Hamas regarding a potential ceasefire and the release of hostages. His comments came after Hamas unveiled an ambitious proposal aimed at permanently halting the violence.
According to Egyptian media reports, talks are progressing in Cairo, with Hamas pushing for a prolonged ceasefire and outlining terms for a prisoner swap. The group’s plan, which spans four and a half months, includes the release of all hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians detained by Israel, including high-ranking militants. This plan also calls for the complete cessation of hostilities.
The proposal from Hamas follows an initiative developed by the US, Israel, Qatar, and Egypt, emphasizing the complexity of achieving a lasting peace.
