Despite facing minor water damage issues in her newly renovated condo, Yes933 DJ Chen Ning remains unbothered and in good spirits.
Yes933 radio DJ Chen Ning has encountered a few teething issues with her brand-new condo, including a water leakage problem, but she’s taking it all in stride.
In a YouTube video uploaded on April 8, the 31-year-old radio personality gave a home tour to her colleague, Hazelle Teo, and revealed that, despite the new condo’s initial hiccups, she was handling the situation with ease. Chen Ning shared that while she was using the bathroom one day, she noticed some water stains on the ceiling. Upon investigating, she discovered that the issue stemmed from a leak in the pipes of her upstairs neighbour.
“It’s been fixed now, but they haven’t patched up the ceiling yet,” Chen Ning explained, showing viewers a section of her bathroom ceiling covered with a black plastic bag and masking tape. Despite the inconvenience, she remained relaxed. “I’m pretty chill about it. It doesn’t really bother me,” she added, joking that she had asked the technicians to address it when they had time.
Chen Ning’s condo, which spans 721 square feet, was renovated for approximately $30,000, well under her original budget of $50,000. She credited her hands-on interior designer for ensuring the renovation went smoothly, although she admitted that finding time to participate in the process was a challenge.
The condo tour revealed some personal touches, such as seven speakers throughout the flat, a guest room repurposed for extra storage and a random chair, alongside a mahjong table. A highlight for Chen Ning was the kitchen, which she insisted be enclosed to minimise the cleaning required after cooking. “I really dislike cleaning, so having an enclosed kitchen was essential,” she explained.
The overall theme of her home was described as a blend of rustic and industrial styles. Chen Ning noted that her interior designer had captured the rustic vibe perfectly, with shelving and fixtures showcasing wood grain, while the industrial elements would likely come through over time.
Her personal style was evident in every room, from the plants in the kitchen to the handmade pottery displayed on the shelves in the dining area. During another house tour posted a day earlier, host Seow Sin Nee praised Chen Ning’s choice of a rustic style over the minimalistic or wabi-sabi designs favoured by others in the industry.
Chen Ning explained that she preferred a slightly messy aesthetic. “I like the feeling of a bit of chaos,” she said. “I feel like my interior designer knew me so well that after she handed over the house, she told me to make it as messy as possible to give it more ‘feel.’”
Despite the apparent disorder, Chen Ning insisted, “There’s order within chaos.”
