Customer Criticizes Airport Canteen Prices, While Others Defend Cost Due to Location
A Changi Airport diner expressed his frustration on social media after paying S$10 for a meal at the T1 worker’s canteen, calling it “poor man’s food at a rich man’s price.” The customer, identified as Fsrmer Chan, posted his complaint in the Complaint Singapore Facebook group on February 14, 2024, sharing the details of the meal, which included Tao Geh, Salted Vegetable, Tao Kee, a piece of steamed pork, and a bowl of porridge.
The diner, clearly dissatisfied with the cost, added a sad face emoji to his post and voiced his frustration at the price, labeling the hawkers as “ridiculous” and urging others to beware of these “sharks.”
However, his complaint sparked a wave of counter-arguments from other Singaporeans who pointed out that prices at airports are typically higher due to the cost of operating in such a location. One commenter said, “If you’re complaining about airport prices, eat at home before heading to the airport,” while another suggested, “Better yet, open your own restaurant and let’s see how you manage to pay airport fees!”
While the diner’s post gained attention, many seemed to agree that airport food prices are expected to be more expensive, and that the complaints were unwarranted, considering the context.
