Jurong West Stall Makes Amends for Durian Fight by Distributing Free Produce to Locals

A fruit stall owner in Jurong West has made a public apology by giving away $2,000 worth of fruits after a violent altercation broke out at his stall. The incident, which took place on July 11, saw a brawl erupt over a durian, leading to a man threatening another with a knife. The fight began when a queue outside a fruit stall blocked access to a nearby stall, causing tensions to escalate.

A video posted on social media captured the altercation, which began with shouting and quickly escalated to physical violence. The situation worsened when a durian was thrown, and a man in black shorts pulled out a knife before the conflict was diffused by others nearby. Three individuals, aged 30, 52, and 58, were arrested, and two of them sought medical attention.

In an effort to mend relations with the community, the stall owner, Mr. Lan, gave away 2,000 kilos of durians, as well as other fruits like cherries, lychees, and watermelons, in a gesture of goodwill. The fruits were offered starting early on July 14, drawing many residents to the stall. The giveaway quickly attracted crowds, and the fruits were gone within hours.
