England Hit with Stadium Fan Ban Following Disorder at Euro 2020 Final

Uefa imposes sanctions on the Football Association after violent scenes at Wembley during the final

England will be required to play behind closed doors for their next competitive Uefa fixture after the Football Association was sanctioned for the disorder that marred the Euro 2020 final at Wembley. The punishment includes a two-match crowd ban, with the second match suspended for two years, and a fine of €100,000 (£84,500). The ban will take effect during England’s opening home game of the 2022-23 Nations League campaign.

The scenes of chaos and violence before and during the match against Italy on 11 July, where ticketless fans stormed the stadium and disturbances occurred outside, led to widespread condemnation. Uefa’s decision highlights issues including field invasions, throwing objects, and disruptions during the national anthems. The FA is under scrutiny for its handling of security at the event, with a probe still underway.
