Mercedes Celebrates a One-Two Finish with Hamilton in Second Place
George Russell secured his maiden Formula 1 win at the Brazilian Grand Prix in São Paulo, delivering a dominant performance to hold off his Mercedes teammate, Lewis Hamilton. The triumph marked a historic day for the Mercedes team, showcasing their resurgence late in the season with a commanding one-two finish.
The race was not without drama, featuring collisions and penalties. Early contact between Hamilton and Max Verstappen led to a five-second penalty for the reigning world champion, adding to the intensity. A safety car in the closing laps tightened the field, but Russell expertly maintained his lead to take the checkered flag.
This victory places Russell fourth in the drivers’ standings with 265 points, while Hamilton remains fifth with 240 points. The tight competition between Charles Leclerc and Sergio Pérez, both tied at 290 points, sets up a thrilling finale at next week’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
