Iran Provides Technical Support for Russian Drones in Ukraine

US Confirms Iranian Involvement in Drone Attacks Targeting Civilians

The US has accused Iran of deepening its role in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by offering technical support for operating Iranian-made drones. According to National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby, Iranian trainers and technicians were sent to Crimea to assist Russian forces struggling to use the drones effectively.

While the drones are piloted by Russian operators, Iranian personnel have been providing training and maintenance to enhance their lethality. Kirby emphasized that the drones have been used to target civilians and destroy critical infrastructure, marking Tehran’s direct involvement in the conflict.

Early operational issues with the drones, including system failures and missed targets, reportedly prompted Iran to deploy technical advisers to improve their performance.
