War games exercise will test the country’s readiness for the emergence of a lethal “Omega” variant
Israel is set to conduct the world’s first national Covid-19 drill, aimed at testing the country’s preparedness for a new and potentially lethal variant of the virus. The exercise, which is scheduled for Thursday, will simulate a response to an “Omega” variant of Covid-19, although no such variant has yet been discovered.
The drill, led by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, will take the form of a war games exercise, involving multiple government departments and national agencies. It is designed to assess Israel’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to the emergence of a dangerous new strain of the virus.
Israel has successfully overcome a fourth wave of Covid-19 and is nearing the end of the Delta variant’s impact. However, Bennett emphasized that the fight against the virus is ongoing. “We are continuing to hold drills and challenge ourselves to prepare for any possible scenario,” he said, highlighting the importance of maintaining vigilance and readiness for future challenges.
