Israeli Airstrike Targets South Beirut Amid Gaza Crisis

Tensions escalate as Israeli strikes continue, while humanitarian concerns in Gaza grow.

BEIRUT, Lebanon — An Israeli airstrike was reported in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon, on October 24, 2024, intensifying the already volatile situation in the region. This airstrike marks another chapter in the ongoing conflict as Israel escalates its actions against Hezbollah, with claims of having struck 160 Hezbollah targets in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza remains dire, with the head of a prominent aid group telling a conference in Paris that Gaza is “dying.” The humanitarian crisis has intensified as the conflict rages, leaving civilians in desperate conditions. Rescue teams report that over 770 people were killed in Israel’s assault on northern Gaza, and the Gaza Civil Defence agency has stated that it can no longer provide first responder services due to overwhelming casualties.

International voices continue to call for a ceasefire, with Hamas indicating willingness to cease hostilities if Israel accepts a Gaza ceasefire deal. In addition, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced an additional $135 million in humanitarian aid to Palestinians. The conflict shows no sign of de-escalation, and tensions remain high as world powers continue to seek solutions to the crisis.
