Brazil’s president recovers from his latest health complication linked to a 2018 stabbing.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday after being admitted two days earlier with an intestinal obstruction, a health issue that stemmed from complications following a stabbing during his 2018 campaign.
Bolsonaro, who had been on holiday in the southern state of Santa Catarina, experienced abdominal pain and was rushed to São Paulo’s Vila Nova Star hospital early on Monday. After undergoing medical treatment, including the insertion of a nasogastric tube, the obstruction was cleared by Tuesday.
The president posted a photo on Twitter Wednesday morning, expressing gratitude and thanking the medical team for their care. Doctors reported that his digestive system was recovering well, and he was on a liquid diet, with the nasogastric tube successfully removed.
This is the second time in recent months that Bolsonaro has been hospitalized for similar symptoms, following a similar intestinal blockage in July 2021. The far-right leader, who has been in office since 2019, has faced several health setbacks due to his 2018 stabbing, which required multiple surgeries. Bolsonaro intends to stand for re-election in October 2022.
