Labour Leader Outlines Vision for Governance at Party Conference
Labour leader Keir Starmer delivered a decisive keynote speech at the party’s annual conference, outlining plans to implement a Green New Deal, revive skilled jobs, and develop a practical strategy to “make Brexit work.”
In his address, Starmer criticized the current government for a series of crises—fuel shortages, cost-of-living struggles, and pay stagnation. He emphasized Labour’s commitment to policies focused on environmental sustainability, including a £6 billion annual investment in home insulation. He also promised to modernize the education curriculum and shift NHS priorities from emergency care to preventative measures.
Starmer acknowledged Labour’s significant defeat in the 2019 election, urging party members to unite and focus on winning the next one. He highlighted Labour’s patriotic vision and praised the skilled labor values instilled by his late father. Despite interruptions from activists during his critique of former leader Jeremy Corbyn, Starmer maintained that Labour’s future lies in delivering a “serious plan for government.”
As the conference concluded, Starmer reaffirmed his belief that Labour can win the next general election by presenting itself as a credible and forward-thinking alternative to the Conservatives.
