Domestic worker speaks out about lack of meals and challenges with agency support.
A foreign domestic helper in Singapore has shared her experience on social media, claiming that her employer has not provided her with breakfast for the past four months, despite her repeated requests. In an anonymous post to a support group for domestic workers and employers, the maid described how she has been employed with her current family for approximately four months, and in all that time, she has not been given any breakfast.
The helper mentioned that she had raised the issue with her agency, asking for assistance, but no progress had been made. “Now I’m 4 months, my employer never give me breakfast,” she wrote, expressing her frustration. The maid also revealed that she often purchases her own food on her days off, including coffee and biscuits, while waiting for her employer to finish meals and eating leftovers for lunch.
In response to queries in the comments section, the maid emphasized that it was her first time working in Singapore and she felt unsupported in the situation. She asked others in the group if it was possible to change her employer.
This post has sparked discussions about the treatment of domestic workers in Singapore, with many expressing concern about the working conditions and well-being of foreign helpers.
