Shuttle Bus Aims to Improve Access to Essential Services for Local Community
Service to Operate on Weekdays, Enhancing Convenience for Elderly and Residents Without Easy Access to Transport
Starting July 8, 2024, a new free shuttle bus service will operate within the Marine Parade cluster, aiming to address transportation challenges faced by residents. Running between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on weekdays, the service will connect key locations such as MRT stations, polyclinics, food centres, and other essential services.
Registration for the service began on June 30, and residents will receive a barcode to identify themselves as eligible users. The service will make six stops: Marine Terrace MRT station, Blk 34 Marine Crescent, Marine Parade Central Roundabout, Duncan Food Centre, Eunos Polyclinic, and Joo Chiat Complex, with designated pick-up and drop-off points at the last three locations and the MRT station.
Members of Parliament Tan See Leng and Edwin Tong emphasized that the initiative was designed to meet the needs of local residents, particularly the elderly, who had expressed concerns about the difficulty of reaching essential services. Dr. Tan highlighted that the new service would reduce commute times and improve access to daily necessities.
This initiative is part of the Marine Parade ward’s WeCare programme, addressing last-mile connectivity issues and improving overall transport convenience.
