Mixed Martial Arts Organization Focuses on Long-Term Sustainability
On October 16, 2024, One Championship, the mixed martial arts (MMA) organization headquartered in Singapore, announced layoffs affecting a number of employees. A spokesperson confirmed that the company made the difficult decision to let go of a few dozen staff members as part of its strategy to achieve profitability in the coming months. This move is part of an ongoing effort to streamline operations and ensure long-term sustainability and growth.
The layoffs have affected employees in various departments, including broadcast, e-sports, finance, marketing, and public relations. According to an anonymous source, over 20 employees were let go from the Singapore office, though the company did not disclose the exact number. Speculation has also arisen that One Championship may shift a majority of its operations to the Philippines or Thailand in the future.
One Championship, with offices around the world including in Tokyo, Los Angeles, and London, employs between 201 and 500 people. Its institutional investors include Temasek Holdings.
