Commuter Claims Passengers Are “Sweating Buckets” on New Trains, Suggesting Cost-Cutting Measures
A train user took to an online forum to voice concerns about the air conditioning on SMRT trains, asking whether the public transportation service is “skimping on aircon” to save costs. The passenger, traveling on one of the newer SMRT trains along the North-South Line (NSL), described an uncomfortable experience, stating that passengers were “sweating buckets” and resorting to waving makeshift fans to cool down.
The commuter pointed out that stations like Tanjong Pagar and Raffles Place also felt unbearably hot, with no air conditioning at the platform level, further contributing to the discomfort. The post sparked a discussion about temperature control on the trains, with some suggesting that it could be an effort to reduce energy costs, while others raised concerns about passenger comfort.
The comments reflect broader frustrations with the heat during daily commutes, and questions about whether the air conditioning systems are being properly maintained or adjusted for optimal performance. The issue highlights the balance between managing operational costs and ensuring a comfortable experience for commuters on public transport.
