Text: Poland has announced plans to demand an explanation from Moscow after a Russian missile briefly entered Polish airspace during a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine. The incident prompted Poland to place its armed forces on heightened alert as a precaution.

The missile, which was targeting Ukraine’s Lviv region, triggered concerns in Poland, a NATO member, about the potential escalation of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The missile breach occurred on Sunday morning, as Russia launched another round of aerial assaults on Ukraine, marking the third pre-dawn attack in just four days.

These strikes follow Russia’s recent military successes, including the capture of the Ukrainian village of Ivanivske, located west of Bakhmut. Meanwhile, tensions between the two nations have also been inflamed by a deadly attack on a concert hall in Moscow on Friday, which resulted in at least 133 fatalities. Russian authorities have sought to blame Ukraine for the attack, an accusation which Ukraine has strongly denied. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the massacre, but Russian President Vladimir Putin has used the tragedy to further accuse Kyiv of involvement.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has vehemently rejected Putin’s assertions, accusing the Russian leader of attempting to shift the blame to Ukraine. In a pointed response, Zelenskiy said, “Putin and the other thugs are just trying to blame it on someone else. They have brought hundreds of thousands of their own terrorists here, on Ukrainian land, to fight against us.” He criticized Putin for remaining silent for 24 hours before trying to link the concert hall attack to Ukraine.

The situation has led to a heightened state of readiness for Poland’s military forces, as the country grapples with the increasing volatility on its eastern border, caused by Russia’s ongoing missile and aerial campaigns against Ukraine.
