Police Investigate MP Rupert Lowe Over Alleged Threats Against Party Chair

The suspended Reform UK MP denies accusations, claiming political retaliation for his criticism of Nigel Farage

The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into Rupert Lowe, the suspended MP for Great Yarmouth, following allegations that he made a series of verbal threats towards Reform UK’s chair, Zia Yusuf. The police confirmed that they are probing the claims, which reportedly took place between December 2024 and February 2025, though no details have been disclosed regarding the specific threats made.

Reform UK suspended Lowe after complaints were raised about his conduct, including accusations of workplace bullying, as well as derogatory and discriminatory remarks. The party further alleged that Lowe had, on at least two occasions, threatened physical violence against Yusuf.

However, Lowe has strongly denied these allegations, insisting that they are politically motivated. He claims that the accusations are in retaliation for his outspoken criticism of Nigel Farage’s leadership within Reform UK. Lowe, who had been seen as a potential future leader of the party earlier this year, argued that Reform UK required a more structured plan, additional policies, and spokespeople, distancing himself from what he described as Farage’s “messianic” leadership style.

In a statement on X, Lowe confirmed that he had been informed of the investigation and had engaged lawyers to represent him. He clarified that while his lawyers were in contact with the Metropolitan Police, he had not yet been contacted directly by the authorities. Lowe reiterated his innocence, describing the allegations as entirely false.

On the same day, former Reform UK deputy leader Ben Habib, another critic of Farage, suggested that Lowe might join him in creating a new right-wing political movement. Habib, who has maintained regular contact with Lowe, indicated that both men were motivated by the desire to bring about change through electoral means, and he expressed openness to a potential collaboration. Habib’s comments further fuel speculation about a split within Reform UK, which could see Lowe and other disillusioned figures align to challenge Farage’s dominance in the party.
