Record Rainfall Leads to Mass Evacuations in British Columbia and Pacific North-West

Heavy rains trigger severe flooding and mudslides, forcing communities to flee in Canada and the US

Communities in western Canada are facing evacuation orders again, this time due to devastating floods caused by record rainfall. This follows a summer of wildfires and extreme heat that had already displaced many residents. The heavy rains have also caused significant flooding and mudslides in Washington state, prompting school closures and further evacuations.

In British Columbia, helicopters were deployed to rescue approximately 275 people, including 50 children, who had been stranded on Highway 7 after a mudslide blocked the road. The terrifying scene was described by witnesses, including Adam Wuisman, who recounted hearing people scream for help as they were trapped between a vulnerable mountainside and the Fraser River.

The extreme weather continues to have a devastating impact, with officials working to manage the ongoing situation.
