Structural failure causes disaster in Santa Cruz church, trapping worshippers in Ciudad Madero.

At least 10 people were killed and around 60 others injured when the roof of a church in Ciudad Madero, northern Mexico, collapsed during Sunday mass. The incident occurred in the Santa Cruz church, where approximately 100 people were attending the service at the time. Reports suggest that around 30 parishioners were trapped under the debris when the roof caved in, and search teams worked late into the night to find survivors and recover bodies.

The collapse is believed to have been caused by a “structural failure,” although investigations are still ongoing. Emergency services, including the National Guard, state police, civil defense, and the Red Cross, were quickly deployed to the scene. Search teams, aided by dogs, crawled under the fallen roof slabs, hoping to locate anyone still alive beneath the wreckage.

In a statement, the Mexican Council of Bishops expressed their sorrow, saying, “We join in prayer at the tragic loss of life and those injured.” The incident has shocked the local community as they mourn the victims of this horrific disaster.
