Family members travel to Scotland amid growing concern for the Queen’s wellbeing
On 8 September 2022, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II, aged 96, was under medical observation at Balmoral Castle in Scotland after her health took a sudden decline. News of her deteriorating condition prompted a swift response from the royal family, with several members rushing to her side.
The Duke of Cambridge, Prince Harry, and other senior royals quickly made their way to Balmoral. Meghan and Harry, travelling separately from the rest of the family, were reported to be on their way to join the others. As the news broke, BBC One suspended regular programming, and tributes began pouring in from across the world, with political leaders such as UK Prime Minister Liz Truss and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon expressing their thoughts and prayers for the Queen.
The Queen’s health had been a topic of concern for several months, with recent events, including her absence from public engagements, further fueling speculation. The Queen had traveled to Balmoral for her summer break in late July, and by August, adjustments were made to ensure her comfort, including a private welcome ceremony for her return to the estate.
The nation’s focus now remains on the Queen’s condition, with the royal family by her side as they await further developments.
