British entertainer charged with multiple offences involving four women across several years
British actor and comedian Russell Brand has been formally charged with a series of sexual offences involving four women, according to the Metropolitan Police. The charges include one count each of rape, indecent assault, and oral rape, alongside two counts of sexual assault.
The alleged incidents took place between 1999 and 2005, in both Bournemouth and various parts of London. Brand is scheduled to appear in court on 2 May to face the charges.
Authorities state that the accusations include the rape of a woman in Bournemouth in 1999, an indecent assault in Westminster in 2001, oral rape and sexual assault in Westminster in 2004, and a further sexual assault between 2004 and 2005 in the same area.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the investigation, confirmed that the alleged victims are receiving ongoing support from officers specially trained in handling sexual offence cases. He urged others who may have been affected to come forward.
The Metropolitan Police began its inquiry in September 2023 following several allegations that came to light through investigative reporting by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times.
Brand has previously denied all allegations of rape, sexual misconduct, and emotional abuse made against him. The police have confirmed that their investigation remains active.
