A Russian missile strike on Kyiv’s Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital has left the world in shock and horror, as the attack targeted Ukraine’s largest pediatric clinic, killing at least four people and injuring many more. The hospital, renowned for treating children with cancer and complex medical conditions, became a site of devastation as the explosion tore through the building, including the toxicology ward, shattering windows and reducing operating rooms to rubble.

The attack came when the hospital was busiest, with many children already in critical care. Witnesses described the chaotic aftermath as medical staff scrambled to evacuate patients, some of whom were still on dialysis. Nurse Maria Soloshenko recalled the trauma of treating a colleague with severe injuries while trying to save children from the collapsing building.

With more than 1,700 medical facilities in Ukraine hit by Russian attacks since the start of the full-scale invasion, this strike has highlighted the ongoing brutality of the war and the growing calls for stronger air defense measures. The attack has already sparked outrage across Ukraine and the international community, emphasizing the need for further protection of civilian infrastructure amidst the conflict.
