As Putin vows to intensify attacks after Ukrainian Belgorod strike, a Russian missile attack on Voronezh region hits its own village.
Russian missile attacks on Ukraine have claimed at least five lives, according to local officials, as strikes hit Kharkiv and Kyiv. The attacks come as Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to escalate military strikes in retaliation for a Ukrainian attack on Belgorod. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, asserting that Russia will be held accountable for every life lost.
In a bizarre turn of events, Russian airstrikes also hit their own territory, with a missile accidentally bombing a village in the Voronezh region, near the border with Ukraine. The unintended strike caused damage but no immediate casualties. The incident has raised concerns about the effectiveness and coordination of Russia’s military operations.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister has called for an expedited supply of air defense systems to counter the ongoing Russian bombardment. In Kyiv, explosions were heard, and residential buildings were reported damaged. Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, visited affected sites and vowed to rebuild.
As the conflict continues, both sides appear to be digging in for a prolonged war. Russia’s military operations are likely to intensify, especially as retaliatory attacks target Ukraine’s key infrastructure.
