COVID-19 Restrictions Reduce Influx of Foreigners in 2023
Singapore’s population fell by 4.1% this year, reaching 5.45 million, marking its sharpest decline since 1950. This drop, highlighted in an annual report, is attributed to pandemic-related travel restrictions that reduced the arrival of foreigners. The city-state experienced population shrinkage for the second year in a row and for only the third time since 1950. The figure includes non-permanent residents such as foreign workers, students, and expatriates living in Singapore.
