FCC Moves to Address BGP Security Gaps Amid Chinese Telecoms’ Misuse of Routing Protocol
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed stricter security measures to protect internet traffic from vulnerabilities in the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). This follows reports that China Telecom misdirected U.S. internet traffic on multiple occasions, potentially exposing sensitive data to theft and espionage. Broadband providers would now be required to implement BGP security plans and report their mitigation efforts. This is part of broader U.S. action to tighten oversight on Chinese telecom operations.
