US Presidential Election Updates: Harris Delivers Closing Address Amid Controversy Over ‘Garbage’ Remarks

Tensions Heighten as Election Day Approaches

With just a week left before the election on November 5, Vice President Kamala Harris took to the stage in Washington to deliver a compelling closing address. Speaking from the Ellipse, the same location where Donald Trump spoke before the January 6 Capitol riot, Harris called for a “new generation” of leadership and urged Americans to vote in what she framed as the most crucial election of their lifetimes. She emphasized that her leadership represents a break from the past, portraying Trump as a “petty tyrant.”

While Harris rallied her supporters, Donald Trump faced backlash after referring to America as “a giant garbage can” during a speech, further fueling tensions. In addition, his controversial comments about the Puerto Rican community, which he claimed no one loves as much as he does, continued to draw criticism.

Amid this, President Biden had to clarify remarks that were interpreted as calling Trump supporters “garbage.” Biden explained that he was referring to the “hateful rhetoric” of a comedian at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, not to his supporters directly.

Key Updates:

Josh Shapiro, Governor of Pennsylvania, distanced himself from Biden’s comments, stressing that he would never insult American voters, regardless of their political affiliation.
Kamala Harris plans to spend election night at her alma mater, Howard University, where she would make history as the first graduate of a historically Black university to become President, should she win.
As the election nears, both campaigns are gearing up for what promises to be an intense final week.
