Hundreds of drivers stranded overnight in freezing conditions are rescued after crash involving multiple trucks.
All motorists stranded on a 50-mile stretch of Interstate 95 in Virginia have been rescued, according to transportation authorities. The drivers were stuck for nearly 24 hours due to a crash involving six tractor-trailers on Monday morning. The crash caused major delays, blocking both lanes of traffic and leaving motorists stranded in snow and freezing temperatures, south of Washington DC.
The incident began when one truck blocked the highway, leading to a chain reaction as other vehicles lost control. As hours passed and night fell, drivers posted desperate messages on social media, expressing concerns about running out of fuel, food, and water.
Among the stranded was NBC News correspondent Josh Lederman, who shared his experience with viewers via a video broadcast from his car on Tuesday. Despite the difficulties, transportation authorities reported that all affected drivers were safely rescued by Tuesday evening.
