Ukraine’s President accuses Russia of a deadly attack on Donetsk, claiming two children lost their lives and a school was damaged.
Volodymyr Zelensky has condemned a Russian artillery attack in Donetsk, which he claims resulted in the deaths of two children and damage to a local school. The Ukrainian president accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian areas, further escalating the violence in the region.
The strike, which took place on 21 July 2023, has raised concerns about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in eastern Ukraine, where Russian artillery continues to hit civilian infrastructure. Zelensky called the attack an act of “terror”, reinforcing the accusations that Russia’s actions are increasingly affecting innocent civilians.
In addition to the child casualties, the attack also caused significant damage to a school building, heightening concerns about the safety of children in conflict zones. Zelensky vowed to continue his efforts to bring justice for the victims of such strikes, emphasizing Ukraine’s commitment to defending its people against Russian aggression.
This attack comes as Ukraine has faced increased pressure from Russia, with continued shelling in Donetsk and other regions. The Ukrainian president has repeatedly called for stronger international support to help counter Russian forces and protect Ukrainian civilians.
Meanwhile, Russia has not commented publicly on the Donetsk incident. As the war in Ukraine continues, the international community remains divided on how best to address the escalating violence and its devastating impact on both military personnel and civilians.
