Ukrainian President references recent attacks as Moscow defends against rising cross-border strikes.
In a nightly video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a stark warning, declaring that the war is beginning to reach Russia. His statement followed a drone attack on Moscow, where three drones were shot down by Russian air defences. Although Ukraine has not officially acknowledged responsibility for the strikes, these events are part of a broader pattern of cross-border attacks that have intensified since the beginning of Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russian forces in June.
This marks the fourth drone attack on Moscow’s capital region in July and the third in just this week, highlighting the growing vulnerability of Russia’s heartland as its 18-month-long war in Ukraine continues to escalate.
The Russian Defence Ministry described the drone attack as an “attempted terrorist attack” by the Kyiv regime. According to their statement, one of the drones was intercepted and destroyed in the Odintsovo area, while the other two were jammed and subsequently crashed into the Moscow City business district, causing significant disruption.
These attacks, which have included high-profile strikes such as the May assault on the Kremlin, mark a shift in the tactics of the Ukrainian military, as they continue to target Russian infrastructure and military assets deeper within Russia’s borders.
